I didn't make the trek across the ocean for entertainment value. My work as a consultant on and off the set of Gibson's "Passion of the Christ," gave me a new appreciation of the power of well-made, serious, and widely-distributed movies. They influence culture. They affect the way we think about the story they tell. Sometimes they warp our view of history or of humanity. Other times they inform, inspire, and challenge. But they always leave a mark. ... ABC released this excerpt today, and will release more from Mel Gibson's interview on Good Morning America soon: Diane Sawyer: "What did you think it was?" Mel Gibson: "Me? It was just the stupid rambling of a drunkard, you know and ... what I need to do to heal myself and to be assuring and allay the fears of others and to heal them if they had any heart wounds from something I may have said. The official website for Apocalypto recently updated its design, but still has very little information moved over to the new navigation menu at this point. Besides the trailer, the website only has the synopsis of Apocalypto: 'From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Mel Gibson (The Passion of the Christ, Braveheart), comes Apocalypto: a heart stopping mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once great Mayan civilization. When Jaguar Paw's (Rudy Youngblood) idyllic existence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, he is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. The embattled 50-year-old actor-director, whose high-profile drunken-driving arrest and subsequent anti-Semitic tirade made international headlines over the summer, is set to appear on "Good Morning America" next week. ... He spoke with Diane Sawyer somewhere in Southern California recently for a two-part TV interview scheduled to air on Disney-owned ABC's "Good Morning America" on Oct. 12 and 13.
