Variety asks "'Apocalypto': Masterpiece or misguided?

[More...] It is interesting that no one has any problems admitting that Apocalypto is an excellent movie. Instead, it seems that everyone is only concerned with the personal behavior of Mel Gibson himself. So why is no one willing to separate the art (Apocalypto) from the artist (Mel Gibson)?
